Another 60th birthday digital caricature

I think 60 must be the new 50...as I have gotten quite a few 60th birthday commissions this year and no 50th's!

A quick digital for the ISCA celebrity birthday thread...done on my new monitor! My friend Rick helped me (Thanks, Rick! :-) get it working smoothly, so that now, my Macbook Pro runs Photoshop and only shows my reference material (this particular piece is done from several photos of Mr. Horowitz, aka Shemp)
...and my 22" monitor displays---much better, I might add---the actual painting/drawing that I am working on. Before now, I did everything on my 15" laptop screen.

Shemp's actual birthday is in dispute...some sources say today, some say March 17th, so who knows? He and the other three original Stooges are the only ones there are, to me!

Marlene Dietrich digital painting

Miss Dietrich's birthday was December 27th and this was done for the celebrity birthday thread on the ISCA forum.
And she's actually a pre-New Year's part of my new year's resolution (one of them, anyway) to do more digital work, daily. We'll see if I have time to do one today. This one took about an hour and a half in Photoshop, not counting the time it took me to remake all my customized PS brushes, and reset the buttons on my Wacom tablet to work with my new Macbook.

September 5th would have been Queen's Freddie Mercury's 63rd birthday. He's still one of my favorite singers (in fact, 'Somebody to Love' is my phone's ringtone) so when Jan Opdebeeck chose him for the ISCA forum's birthday person for 9/5, I just had to digitally paint him.

His jaw and cheekbones always seemed very exotic to me, so I decided to emphasize those instead of his famous overbite.

Happy birthday, Brian May!

Inspirational Jan Opdebeeck is still cranking out fantastic celebrity-birthday drawings. Today's birthday is Brian May, guitarist for Queen (one of my favorite groups ever) and part-time astrophysicist--he's 62!! So, I found some time to do a very quick BW exercise in Photoshop--of the man who built his own legendary guitar.

Three caricatures for sign-ins this past weekend!

Three parties held in various places this weekend had one thing in common: a sign-in caricature by this caricature artist!
Two were digital, and one was hand-drawn. Two were for for parties I wasn't drawing for (because I'd been booked elsewhere already) and one was for a party where I was present. One was for a wedding, one was for a 40th birthday, and one was for a bat mitzvah.
I'd like more weekends like this!! :-)


This bride and groom met via Eharmony when the bride enlarged her dating radius to 60 miles. Luckily there was that major highway linking their areas!

This beautiful young lady celebrated her bat mitsvah with many family and friends, and I drew many of them, as well, on Sunday afternoon.

This new fortysomething and his dog were commissioned by his wife, and I delivered the frame and hand-drawn(Prismacolor pencil) caricature right before the party!

I'm hoping to see some wedding and 40th birthday photos from those clients... Thanks, all!
