Airbrushed nurse grad commission

Last weekend, this newly graduated nurse received an airbrushed caricature from her friends:

Congrats to Mo! I had fun airbrushing those cheeks.

Nurse graduation caricature sign-in...with the graduate!

One of my recent clients just sent me a photo of her friend with her caricature sign-in, all framed and signed at her graduation party!

Since my client was nowhere near my location, she simply printed out the hi-res image herself and put it in the frame. Easy to do, and I can guarantee no one else could have duplicated her gift!

This was so much fun to create!

My client saw the nursing school graduation caricature I'd done of my daughter, and commissioned me to do one for her friend. She requested the 'sexy nurse' body, of course. So I sent her a preliminary sketch to approve, and she told me to spice it up! This was the result!

Graduation party for a new nurse...

On Saturday afternoon, I joined a large family celebration for a daughter's graduation from nursing school. I'd done a digital caricature beforehand for the guest-of-honor's sign in:

She was totally surprised by the party!

And she totally surprised ME by walking in with curly hair (that's not the style she was sporting in my reference photo from the client --her mom!) I was very relieved when she told me the caricature caught just how she looked with straight hair! :-) That's her on the right, below.

There were lots of grandchildren and cousins to draw. This little girl had the biggest eyes I have seen in awhile...

This family, especially the guys, had an endless supply of one-liners which kept me in stitches!

The country club where the party was held served some wonderful food, including a mashed-potato bar! You could choose white or sweet potatoes, and there were condiments for each ( I chose brown sugar and carmelized walnuts for mine, so it was more like a dessert!) and then it was presented in a martini glass. Mmmmm...

The experience was fantastic! Everyone loved their pictures. Emily was very personable thru the entire event. And also very helpful to me answering questions etc. And there were numerous comments on her talents and that she was the best caricaturist they had ever seen. I would recommend her to anyone wanting this type of service. She made it very entertaining. I cannot say enough good things about her and her work.

Pig roast!

My first event on Saturday was a small family barbecue that also served as a housewarming, a graduation party, and (their words) a 'wake for Michael Jackson'!!! :-O
The pig was actually butchered the same day poor Michael met his maker....

I was happy to be able to draw in color at this one.

Nurse Graduation Digital Caricatures!

As a result of my own daughter's graduation from nursing school last year, and the resultant post on my blog, several commissions came my way this spring. One client really liked the style I used for my daughter--sexy nurse outfit, blood and all, while other wanted a yoga-loving, dean's list nursing graduate with a more meditative background. These were both LOTS of fun to work on! You really can't beat a caricature for a truly personalized gift. I believe both of these were/are to be used as sign-in boards at their respective graduation parties. Congratulations, ladies!

Digital Fine-tuning of nurse graduation caricature

I am still playing with my daughter's graduation caricature. Some professional peers of mine on the NCN forum gave me some very constuctive critiques, so I worked on the hair, necks, bodies, and size/placement of blood spatter. Then, their cute little shoes and the title were added.
