Brownie Troop gets caricatures at the pool!

At a year-end party for a local troop at a community pool, I drew all the girls first. Here are two of them:

The pool manager liked my work enough to ask me to come back two nights later, for a summer pool party for the members! :-)

Blue and Gold banquet caricatures...

One type of gig that I enjoy immensely is the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet. I did one years ago for this particular pack, and I did it again recently. There were quite a few little boys to get through after the ceremonies were over and it was party time, so I didn't get any photos...except of this extremely-decorated-with-badges young man who sat for me before it got crazy. Congrats!

Girl Scout meeting..with a little something out of my comfort zone

Last night, I drew an excited group of young ladies at a Girl Scout meeting:

That part was certainly IN my comfort zone. No, what made me a little nervous was that I was asked by the Scout leader to give a half-hour talk about being an artist...specifically being a female artist. Public speaking is not my thing--my usual line when people ask how I can DRAW in front of others is, " I can only do it because I can't see my audience--they're BEHIND me!" 

Anyway,  I told the girls and their moms how I got into the (male-dominated) field of professional caricaturing, and how with perseverance and practice you can be anything you want. Then we looked at some photos on my computer of various gigs, and they asked questions---good ones! I actually enjoyed it once we got talking. When the half hour was up, I couldn't believe it---then it was time to draw them in color. Thank YOU, girls! 

Camping Cadette caricatures

My easel and I spent most of yesterday in this picturesque location:

It was in a beautiful wooded campground filled with Girl Scouts of all ages. Each age group had particular fun things to do, in addition to the campground's regular amenities--for the Cadettes (middle-schoolers) it was my caricatures. :-) 

 Each hour I would get a new group of girls plus a few moms. This mom was the roving photographer for her group, so I drew her and she took a photo of me at work:

Look at this pastoral scene that was my view--I tried to get a panoramic photo on the way to the massive dining hall for lunch break. Thank you for having me, girls! :-)
