Ballpark faces...

This week the Phillies swept the Chicago White Sox...and there were lots of fans with great faces to draw...



This dad, a mayor of a small town near Philadelphia, was asking all the passersby if it LOOKED LIKE HIM....!!


This young man returned with his sister even though the last time he sat for his caricature a few weeks ago, the Phanatic almost squished him!!

Digital gift caricature

This is an unfinished digital work-in-progress, using Photoshop 6 and a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. I don't think I will ever understand all the nooks and crannies of PS, but I am trying!
The victim is my boyfriend's brother (eventually my boyfriend will be in it too, but for now this is the scheme of things!). Here's the reference photo.

Retirement-Gift caricatures...

A local school commissioned me to do some gift caricatures for their retirees...I did these today in bed, using Prismacolor markers and pencils, while watching the Phillies away-game on TV!! (They're back to another homestand tomorrow after a 17-5 whooping by the Kansas City Royals.)

Backyard graduation party...

Saturday evening found me at a family graduation party. Funnily enough, it was another color/clothesline display gig...It went so well they kept me on longer! Here are a few of the guests...




These two sisters shimmied their way through the entire party, complete with tinkling Greek-coin belts, so I just had to draw bodies in their caricature...

Post Prom

Early, early Saturday morning, I drew at yet another post-prom with yet another caricaturist colleague. These wee-hours events are the only reason I ever drink Red Bull! Speaking of which, we were set up near a mechanical bull, along with the usual assortment of inflatables.



My photography skills were lacking by this time of the morning!!

Middle School Formal...

There were girls at this Friday evening event, but the boys were the big caricature fans here! It was also unusual in that it was a color gig, and the school set up a clothesline to display the finished drawings by a fellow artist and myself.

Watercolor commission

I just finished this watercolor today for a client:

Switching from caricatures to fine art for this commission has whetted my appetite for more diverse work. Both types strengthen each other, it seems to me.

Homestand over...

No more baseball games for a bit. Here's two from yesterday afternoon that stood out:

These guys were celebrating the fu-manchu-ed one's birthday--the missing one was more interested in the game than the caricature--but the remaining two kept having me write more and more stuff on it...

My weekend was spent...doing caricatures

On Saturday afternoon, I drew at a set of twins' first birthday party, poolside (a lovely outdoor one this time!). My handy easel umbrella shaded me a bit so I didn't have to take up much room under their backyard tent... lots of guests, so not a lot of photos, but here's one of my very last subject.

Sunday afternoon was a soggy affair (the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry) but the Phillies managed to not only have a game--but beat the Giants! ( and the remnants of MLB non-hero Barry Bonds)
Here's a pink munchkin whose mom got a Father's Day gift for her hubby a little early...

Baseball fever...

This guy and some friends, all from Chicago, were on a nine-day trip...to see nine baseball teams in nine different stadiums! They'd been to Camden Yards and Fenway already, and found our four-year-young Citizens Bank Park to be not only beautifully open, but also had the best food (and caricature artists ;-)
