Unfortunately, rain forced the outdoor ceremony to be moved indoors:
I've done this school's late-night post-prom several times, but this year they invited me to draw at their actual prom, which was scheduled to be held in a big tent on their football field. Heavy rain changed that to indoors at their high school. They set me up in the library next to the Jenga game (!) LOL it scared my sitters more than me!
It was great to hear live music after so long NOT hearing live music! This lady's family put on a fab Betty-Boop-themed celebration for her!
Some years I draw at a lot of post-proms... and some years not. This is one of those years, obviously, throwing hundreds of high school seniors in an indoor space with bounce houses and other fun things to do is still probably risky. So instead, I've been invited to a few actual proms, as opposed to the post-prom. This school tented up their ball field and invited its glamorous seniors to party and enjoy themselves as if it were the finest country club. And they did!
Tentatively, cautiously, we are starting to get out and about more, people really want to experience just being around other people! I decided to be a part of a small arts festival, very close to my home in Delaware...I've done it in the past, but most years, the Saturday on which it's usually held is booked. This year, it was open....so there I went!
This school has booked me for many years to do their fabulous post-proms in spring. Usually, a parent group lavishly decorates the high school and it's a major event. This year, because of lingering pandemic concerns, they opted to use a local family fun spot. The feeling was, at least they're HAVING a post-prom! Luckily, they still invited me and my caricatures! I drew in a room with the Brady Bunch shrine!
