Vroom vroom! Racetrack caricatures! Three days worth!

This July, I experienced a totally new type of venue for my caricatures...a NASCAR racetrack! Specifically, the Monster Mile Fanzone at Dover Motor Speedway. My job was to draw as many free caricatures for guests as I could, in a wonderful beach/boardwalk themed area, (complete with tons of trucked-in sand!) showcasing the fun coastal aspects of my home state of DELAWARE!

My papers were printed with a smokin'  Ford Mustang and the track's logo, so all I had to do was draw faces. I am happy to report that over 200 people now have a caricature from me, over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours that I spent there!

Here's my IG Reels if you want to get a sense of the atmosphere!

Day 1.      Day 2.     Day 3.     Some reactions!

So, for this event, I decided to try an old/new way to shade my caricatures, that was fast...PanPastels. A long time ago I used to do the chalk-and-glove technique using lecturers chalk, and this is similar. I used makeup sponges and applicators (not gloves) to lay down a nice saturated swash of dry color over my Copic Sketchmarker linework. Folks liked it!

You can see why I chose the limited color palette:

Met a race car driver, Todd Gilliland!

Last one on Sunday afternoon!!
And some other images of my time there...
Thanks for having me!
