Pageant caricatures!

It's been one year to the day since my gigs started back up last summer, after the first wave of pandemic...and that, after five months of no work at all. I hope we don't have another shutdown this autumn, also like last year.

This was in a lovely venue on the water...
...with a couple of hundred beautiful. accomplished young ladies to be drawn in a three-hour booking
(so hardly any photos)...
but myself and SIX other lady caricaturists GOT IT DONE!!! :-)
This was a true pleasure of a gig!

Penn State Brandywine...caricatures!

Penn State's campus in Delaware County, PA had a student-morale-booster day recently, and my caricatures were a part of it.  In a sunlit seating area, two other caricaturists and I drew students who were so happy to get one; look how happy THIS guy is!!!
It was a special day for me too, as I was reunited with a friend and mentor, Sally, who was actually the very first caricature artist I ever saw in action, at an art festival back in the late 90's. I told her that day I was going to learn how to do caricatures....
and I DID!!
The memo for lady caricaturists of a certain age: both of us are glasses-wearing, palette-pinned (mine is on my coat) and hatted. :-)
Below, a student who was drawn by both of us.
Without her inspiration way back then, maybe I wouldn't be blogging this right now (she told me I should get back to blogging!) So. THANK YOU, SALLY (again!!)

Campus caricatures with two other lady caricaturists!

A rainy day meant a change of location, from campus green to this indoor spot: overlooking the gym, where  we three lady caricaturists did some fast-paced college-student caricatures! I worked alongside Deb Schafer and Donna Needs, both of whom I hadn't seen for awhile, so it was nice to catch up with them!

Three Canadian students. So I had to get out my red artstix. ;-)
BIG HAIR! I love it!

Caricaturist meet-up

The doldrums of January are a good time to enjoy downtime from gigs...so last night the Other Half and I went to a caricaturist meet-up at Dave and Buster's in Philly, organized by colleague John Sprague
First we eat (and drink), see familiar faces and meet new ones, and then we DRAW.
Here's my output for the evening. :-)
And these are of me...by old and new friends:
L-R Cartoony me by Terry Laban, NASTY me who draws NICE by Patrick Harrington (I hate you, PAT ;-) ( just kidding, I LOVE it) and cuuuuute me by Mike "Shorty" Robinson.
I'm glad I wore my favorite-est hat.
Here's some pics of the action:
Shorty and Pat dood-oodling away. Pat is wearing his characteristic smirk.
Chris Chua, Terry, Debbie Schafer and Shorty.
Sean listening intently.
Below: Ali Thome, she of the sultry voice in the new caricature podcast "It's Supposed to be Funny"
and Julie Borysowski, whom I used to work alongside at Phillies games way back in the day...
John and Pat,  two of my oldest friends in the caricature biz:
Thanks for pulling this together, John!
