Yesterday, I tried something new. I was asked to do a short presentation to a group of Girl Scouts, who were doing a badge pertaining to history...and my silhouettes were a perfect fit! I made up a Powerpoint showing some c.1798 silhouettes of George and Martha Washington, to show them how people loved having affordable likenesses of family members done by travelling artists...because there was no other way...unless you had the money to hire a painter! Then I did some demonstrating. All 18 girls received a silhouette, and they asked great questions! It was a very pleasant experience for all of us. :-)
You can see Martha Washington's silhouette on my laptop screen, it was done in 1798 by her granddaughter, who had some art training.
These two young ladies were the daughters of the Scout leaders so I was permitted to photograph them, here they are with their silhouettes!
And here are the rest of them!
Thanks for having me and for my swag: a box of GS cookies! :-)
