Community Family Day Caricatures

Another annual gig I do, that had a two-year gap between visits because of the pandemic, is this lovely Family Day event held at a municipal complex.  This is one of my favorite gigs---because it's my hometown, where I grew up and have many fond memories. Was glad to be back!

These two were stoic......UNTIL THEY SAW THEIR CARICATURE :-D
Memorably, the lady MAYOR and I discovered that I knew her sister in high school.  We were both on the school newspaper----where I was the CARTOONIST! :-)

Thanks to Bettes Bounces as always for providing my skills to this event! They are a local treasure to this community. :-)

Community Day caricatures...before the deluge...

An annual event for me every year, Delaware City Day is usually a crowded, hot, but happy event where I sit under a tree all day and draw caricatures. This year it spritzed and sprinkled intermittently, so I moved into the gazebo...then torrential downpours came and everyone scrambled to pack up and get somewhere dry. I did get a few hours in, though.

Even drew some dogs this year!
The pug sat nicely for the photo. The two below weren't so patient!
Lots of kiddos!

Hoping for better weather next year!

Caricatures at my hometown Community Day

Set up and ready to draw! I was booked to do a Community Day through one of my long-time event planners, and it turned out to be the town where I grew up. That was cool! It was held on the grounds of their huge, glossy municipal center (which was mostly just a weedy field when I was a kid---I think they even moved a house to make room for it!)
The Mummers entertained along with me!

 Mostly kid caricatures!

Of course, this kid's dad had to be in the caricature. :-)
Thank you, Brookhaven!

Community Day Caricatures!

This year's Delaware City Day wasn't overly hot or humid like it normally is---there was even a breeze! How lovely!
On the river!!!!

I draw many families at this event, but this year I got to draw an enormous BUG along with this group! Look at the top right of the photo----yikes!!!
Here's another family (I've drawn the kids since toddlerhood!) whose members ran off one by one so I couldn't get a photo of all of them together.

Here's some more!

This is the view from the parking lot as I left. Just a perfect day.

Oktoberfest Caricatures!

On a crisp autumn afternoon, my caricaturing was serenaded by a different kind of band: a traditional German one! This community held their own Oktoberfest.
The band even played a Beatles song!!!!! Well, there IS a German version: .
I was right next to the beer garden tent. :-)
The caricatures ended up being of folks of all ages:

Caricatures at the Hummelstown Arts Festival 2016

For the past couple of years, I've drawn in the Kids Area of this lovely little town's annual Arts Festival...

Aren't they cute???

National Night Out Caricatures--- in a far away locale....

My next gig required a ride on an airplane.
This artist decided to start a new venture in her career, in Las Vegas, of all places, but that will be the subject of the next blog post.  ;-)
The night before that,  though, I did a outdoor caricature gig, alongside my dear colleague, Celestia...in the summer....near LAS VEGAS...HOT HOT HOTTTTT....and I survived!!!

Community Day caricatures on the river!

Every summer, I do this event...it's usually hot...but I love it and the people have greeeeat faces there!

Can you smell the pony manure behind my spot???

Below, early morning before the crowds arrive. You can see why it's one of my favorite gigs....my easel and I are right on the Delaware River.

Community Day caricatures 2015

Every year, I draw at an amazing Community Day in Delaware, under the auspices of BettesBounces.com...it's always hot and humid (it's on a riverfront) and it's always a crowd of fun (and patient)  folks! There's a line before I even get started!
I don't forget to bring insect repellant to this gig!
There are returning faces every year for me. :-)
Thanks for another year--I've lost count!

Community Day Caricatures!

Had a bright sunny Saturday morning gig last weekend, at a community day event in a cute little small town...
My spot was in front of the borough hall, near the coolest version of a mechanical bull I ever saw!
But I didn't get to see anyone on it, because my chairs were filled every minute of the two hours spent drawing there. :-)
Caricature reaction ahead!!
He was surprised!

When I tried to leave to get to my next gig, (a wedding reception that was pretty far away)  I was the one who was in for a surprise:
My car was blocked in by an ambulance and a police car! Both of which were unoccupied but had engines running. There was absolutely no way I could squeeze out of there. In looking around to see where they'd gone, I figured...this is a medical emergency...not the time to whine over my needs. I got out the next client's phone number and started to text her I might be late, when someone came and backed up the ambulance a few feet...which solved my problem. And happily, the medical emergency was a minor one. Yay!!
