50th anniversary digital caricature being put to use

Nothing makes me happier (in a caricature sense:-) than seeing my commissions do their thing! I just received this photo from an anniversary party held this past weekend for a long-married couple:
It looks like it was printed full size on 18 x 24 foam core board (something I recommend clients do at Fedex Office, which used to be Kinko's. They do a good job.) and the guests are signing on the background, which is the couple's wedding color from 1962.  My client (their daughter) told me she printed the party-favor versions (I send a sheet with every commission)  on magnet paper and gave them to guests. What a great idea, I'll be sure to tell future clients that one. Thank you!!
Here is the artwork:
Congrats to you both!!

Caricaturama: Frida Kahlo

I haven't submitted anything for Caricaturama 3000 in ages, partly due to time constraints and and also because Facebook changed the group format to one that's less intuitive (in my opinion anyway). However, this week's subject is the enigmatic Frida Kahlo, so I had to have a go at her and her famous eyebrows! This is a one-hour marker sketch, done with Pitt pens in various grays, a lone Markette and a red Sharpie.

A 6th birthday party

Sunday afternoon found me in the company of a happy pack of six-year-old boys...they clearly had been influenced by current and past movie trends!
Here's the birthday boy, and he wanted The Flash! The number of kids was just right to allow for full-color-with-body caricatures.

Well, there were a few girls...
This party was perfect from the boys' standpoint...there was a bounce house, super soakers (the boys didn't get one drop on me, but I did spill my iced tea in my easel drawer) and yummy tomato pie.
Their little shoes strewn everywhere were so cute...
Here's the whole bunch:
Let's see, I did the Flash, the Hulk, Darth Maul, twoTransformers, Luke Skywalker, two Captain America's, Shadow from Sonic the Hedgehog, Jaws, A-Rod, golfing, and two tween girls who were as cute as buttons.  :-)

Happy birthday Vinnie! And thanks for having me, Vinnie's mom and dad!

Wedding smiles!

On Saturday evening, I drew at yet another wedding, but this one was extra special--the bride's grandmother is a dear friend of mine, so I was able to attend the ceremony too. What a beautiful couple!

The bride, her daughter and the groom poured sand from three bottles into one--to signify the beginnings of their new family...awwwwww!
Here's the radiant bride with her grandparents:
The theme of the wedding was "circus," an unusual one, but very kid-friendly, as there were a number of small ones in attendance. Enjoy some photos of the atmosphere under the big tent:
The cake, with fondant-caricatures of the couple!

 Our table designation. :-)
The matron of honor made her remarks with the help of an iPad!
And now for some caricatures :-)

The photographer was everywhere and keen to get a caricature, too!

Last but not least, the couple of the day:

Signed and matted!
My own handsome man was with me and took some wonderful photos and footage:

Congratulations, Taylor and Josh!

50th birthday digital caricature...

...for a gentleman who likes gardening and carpentry. The client found me through his son, who'd seen me drawing at a recent post-prom. :-)

A day spent drawing in Charm City...

Yesterday was kids-on-field-trips day at Camden Yards, but I caricatured all ages:
She was wearing a Beatles t-shirt!
These two were on their honeymoon!
This little guy was a cutie:
There was a special for students to get a BW-but-no-shading profile done, and we did LOTS of those. Here is one of mine--I'm glad I had my wide Copic marker with me for dark hair:
I also had a reject yesterday...seems it always happens in Baltimore! Two twenty-something guys came along and wanted batting poses; my colleague Gary did one and I did the other. When I'd finished, my guy looked as his and said, "Do I really look like that? That goofy??" His friend laughed and said, "Yeah!" but my guy continued looking at it with puzzlement on his face. Then he asked me if he could go off and show his other friends to see if they liked it.  I replied he'd have to pay for it if he took it anywhere. Then he asked if he could photograph it and text it to them! I said, "No, same deal applies. You have to pay for it before you can do anything with it... if you're not happy with it, you don't have to buy it."  So he apologized,  and I said no big deal, people have different tastes. He then opted to have Gary re-do him, which is the same thing that happened last time! :-)

There was plenty to catch one's attention yesterday, here are some sights (and sounds!)
The stuff fans wear to games (?!)
This guy happened by, and his t-shirt had a caricature of the O's manager, whose name is Buck and they're having a great season so far; well, you get it, right?
Rick got to draw another exuberantly-attired fan:

Vineyard wedding with caricatures!

On Sunday, I found myself in a big white tent amidst a scenic vineyard, drawing at a wedding reception!
It was decorated soooooo nicely-- in sage green and buttercup yellow: (which can also be wine colors;-)

The bride and groom were very eye-catching, she in her frothy bridal gown and he in his seersucker suit:
And now for some caricatures of guests:

The couple above were sitting for me when the bride and groom came over and told us they saw the caricature--while they were dancing their first dance-- and it made them laugh!
Yes, he asked for a machine gun!!

Above: The bride's mom, and her sister and brother-in-law.
Below: The beautiful and effervescent bride and groom... I even got his peach -colored socks in the caricature.
And now for 30 seconds out of four hours of fun:
Thank you so much Kevin and Amy-- Congratulations to you!
