Backyard 40th Birthday Caricatures with a live band!

It was great to hear live music after so long NOT hearing live music! This lady's family put on a fab Betty-Boop-themed celebration for her!

AND they had CARICATURES!!! (of course, I added Betty Boop on all of them!)
Here's the birthday girl and a few guests...was trying to get them all done quickly, so not a lot of photos at this one.

AND they fed me some GOOD food afterwards! Mmmmmmm!
Thanks for having me, Falyn and Co! You know how to throw a party!!

Prom Caricatures on the Football Field!

Some years I draw at a lot of post-proms... and some years not. This is one of those years, obviously, throwing hundreds of high school seniors in an indoor space with bounce houses and other fun things to do is still probably risky. So instead,  I've been invited to a few actual proms, as opposed to the post-prom. This school tented up their ball field and invited its glamorous seniors to party and enjoy themselves as if it were the finest country club. And they did!

I worked alongside colleague and friend Julie B, trying to get as many kids done in a short time frame as possible... so only two caricature pics!!!

Those masked lady caricaturists are at it again!

Caricatures AND silhouettes at Bellefonte Arts Festival

Tentatively, cautiously, we are starting to get out and about more, people really want to experience just being around other people! I decided to be a part of a small arts festival, very close to my home in Delaware...I've done it in the past, but most years, the Saturday on which it's usually held is booked. This year, it was open....so there I went!

LOL the masked kid above didn't want himself to be photographed, but said I could take a pic of his drawing!

I actually made a new friend at this event. Local artist Susan Cathcart was drawing some folks up the street from me, some very stylized pen and ink portraits, and she was planning on roving around the fair, as she had done for some years. I invited her to sit with me in my tent, because two artists are better than one for making a spectacle!

I also cut out her silhouette!
Productive day and well worth it! :-)

Post Prom Caricatures....my only late-night gig this year

This school has booked me for many years to do their fabulous post-proms in spring. Usually, a parent group lavishly decorates the high school and it's a major event. This year, because of lingering pandemic concerns, they opted to use a local family fun spot. The feeling was, at least they're HAVING  a post-prom!  Luckily, they still invited me and my caricatures! I drew in a room with the Brady Bunch shrine!

Silhouettes at Afternoon Wedding Reception!

My cherished assistant-photographer-chauffeur husband accompanied me to this event, so I have some good photos from different vantage points. :-)
Here's a time-lapse of my set-up process:
...and here's the results!

My presence there was a surprise to the bride and groom;  the bride's brother had booked me for his own wedding a few years back. Here they are with their silhouettes, and their entrance.

My hubby got some nice action photos of me at work:

Another action video:

I pasted the duplicate silhouettes into a book for the bride and groom, here are a few of the pages:

Another successful silhouette artist event on the books (literally!)

On the way home, we witnessed a  beautiful sunset.

Bridgerton-themed Silhouettes on the waterfront!

On a gorgeous spring day in Maryland, I teamed up with the only other silhouette artist I know, to cut Bridgerton-themed silhouettes for guests of a special event, sponsored by Havre de Grace Living. This little girl was one of the volunteers, and my first silhouette of the afternoon!
Havre de Grace is at the confluence of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay.
My colleague Ted Stuessy, of Shadow Cuts, sat with me, near the historic lighthouse. :-)
Here we are, set up and ready to snip! I wore my Edwardian dress and hat.

Here's Ted in action! We soon were both busy though, and I wasn't able to get a photo of one of his finished silhouettes.
Folks came in all sorts of period costumes!
Here's some of my work. The silhouettes all had HdGLiving's logo printed on the lower left.

When I got home, I photographed some of my offcuts. You can see how much fun I had cutting the intricate and interesting headwear!
Thanks to Gigsalad for putting us in touch with HdGLiving!
Here is the review I received, thank you so much!

Emily was one of two silhouette artists at a themed charity event and she was phenomenal. Not only did the guests rave about her, but she was so easy to work with. Flexible and a great communicator, will definitely hire again. Thank you!

Make-a-Wish 5th birthday party caricatures for a little princess!

Last Saturday was an overcast, but nice, day for an outdoor birthday party, given by the Make-a-Wish Foundation for a little princess and her family...and  a nice day to caricature her guests!

This was the sight that greeted me as I pulled into the neighborhood, so I knew I was in the right place. :-)
Elle and her family! And a couple of guests.

Felt great to set up and draw live people---masked and outdoors, but a real party!
Here is the FB link to Make-a-Wish's photos, taken by Jennifer Janikic Photography--you can see all the other fun goings-on!

And here are a couple of her photos of me in action!

Caricature reaction time!
I have always been grateful for each and every gig I do, but after last year's pandemic, (which of course, we aren't out of yet, hence my mask even outside) I think all party artist-entertainers are even more aware that our skills lift spirits and in that sense, are needed more than we knew. :-)
Thanks to Elle and her family for having me!

R.I.P. Prince Philip

The Royal Family of Great Britain have always been always fun targets to caricature. I did these airbrushed versions of the dour Queen and her brusque husband some years ago...now he's sadly passed on, and there will probably be dignified statues and paintings galore in the UK.  Hopefully there will be some caricatures in the mix!

Family Easter Party Caricatures

The day before Easter reunited me with a repeat client whose wedding I did a few years ago. She had moved to a farm in a rural area, and was having a huge outdoor family party complete with egg hunt and visit from the Easter Bunny! I was thrilled to be there and draw caricatures in the lovely warm sunshine!

These caricatures were done using only Prismacolor Artstix, which have actually been discontinued, so I hear. However, I have a whole shoebox full of them, since they have been my main shading method for more than fifteen years now.
Afterwards, the hostess gifted me with a dozen farm fresh eggs! Thank you SO much!

Gables wedding caricatures

This lo-key and intimate wedding reception was held in a popular and historic barn venue in Chadds Ford, PA, home of the Wyeths. Second wedding this year for me, hoping to catch up with many that were postponed from 2020...what a lovely setting! That's my spot in the corner.

Some guests wore masks and some did not... I did, because my vaccination is brand new. Just hate that is is so hard to communicate with my sitters with it on, especially with music playing.  I did ask folks to remove them for their caricature:

Thank you for having me!
