I tidied up my Caricaturama entry of Bill Murray way-back-when. Strangely, mine seems to be the only one so far  (out of more than one hundred) to depict him as an SNL character--everyone else is doing one of his movie roles...

If you compare this version to my previous post, you can see what subtle changes made a big difference, especially to Bill's likeness-- he's a toughie!

Caricaturama 3000-Amanda Seyfried

Caricaturama Showdown 3000 gave us two weeks for the current challenge; the subject is an actress I have to admit I've never seen...but she's pretty!

This is a pencil/digital hybrid...I wanted to go for a watercolor-washy look, but I STILL haven't found where my actual watercolor pencils are hiding. So I scanned her and speed-colored her digitally in PS3 with that in mind. The whole exercise took me a little over an hour.

Caricaturama 3000-Liv Tyler

I haven't participated in quite awhile, but managed to eke out a sketch before the deadline...this week's subject is the daughter of Aerosmith's singer-turned-nasty-looking-old-man Stephen Tyler. My opinion: she's a beautiful Amazonian elf with big lips, big ears and slightly-crossed eyes. ;-)

Caricaturama 3000-this week it was Queen Elizabeth II

It's digital--- I pen-and-inked it, then used a watercolor brush for the color. Some amazing entries, as usual...

Just Google "Queen Elizabeth" and "lizard" if you don't get it. ;-)

This week's Caricaturama 3000 entry...Michael Cera

Another quickie pencil sketch (with touches of Micron pen and PS CS3) for this week's challenge, Michael Cera. Although I'm not much of a movie buff, I actually did see Superbad and thought it was uncomfortably hilarious. I wonder what Sixteen Candles (my era's teenage coming-of-age movie and one of my favorites) would be like if it had been made in 2007...
Check out Caricaturama Showdown 3000, this young actor ( he also starred in Juno) is another difficult likeness, as was Seinfeld last week.

Caricaturama 3000-this week it's Jerry Seinfeld

The subject of the week is Mr. Puffy Shirt himself.

Many of the other artists on Caricaturama are going for Jerry's older, stand-up self, but I preferred to immortalize his whiny attitude ("but I don't wanna be a pirate") in this quick Ebony pencil sketch.

Caricaturama 3000-this week it's Sophia Loren

These are two quick, young versions of the Italian actress who has kept her beauty and vigor into old age. The left side is my non-digital sketch, done in about an hour with a handful of gray Chartpak markers, which I haven't used in awhile. I'd forgotten that they have a tendency to make other kinds of ink bleed, which they did to the main Markette lines in a few places. The right side is after I sparingly applied some color (add maybe another hour) in Photoshop CS3. Now that I am looking at them side by side, there are some things I prefer in the first sketch; it actually has the better likeness, especially around the eyes. But I still like the delicacy of color in the second...and that's what sometimes happens when you 'clean up' or otherwise mess with a preliminary drawing: it might lose its spontaneity or some other element that made it work in the first place.
LOL Now I am reconsidering which one to enter...

Took about an hour and a half in Photoshop. Although he's not a currently 'hot' celebrity, he'll make a nice portfolio piece for a long-time Python fan (me!).

Jack Black digital caricature....

I finished my Jack Black last night:

The sketchbook rings from my original scan stayed, because I like how they and the way his head is cropped emphasize how big his personality is! (too big for that little paper :-)

Digital WIP-Jack Black

Just got back from little beach vacation with my family--(had to introduce the baby grandson to the Atlantic Ocean!)...now it's time to get back to drawing.

This week's Caricaturama 3000 victim--I mean subject---is Jack Black, of Tenacious D-School of Rock-Shallow Hal fame. What a face!!!

This started out as a pencil sketch which I scanned and brought into Photoshop to finish. However, I'm not sure yet what degree of finish I want to give it...

BTW: My tenuous 6th-degree-of-separation to Jack Black is that two of my friends, Marlo Meekins and Nick Cross, did the fantastic backgrounds for John Kricfalusi's animation of Tenacious D's 2006 music video "Classico"... and now the aforementioned two friends are married and coming up on their first anniversary already!!!

Caricaturama 3000-this week it's Megan Fox

I have to admit, I haven't seen any movie she's in--but I do think it is pretty sad that a twenty-three-year-old would have so much plastic surgery that she's been reduced to a tight, expressionless mask. Like "overdone steak" as a friend commented...

Didn't have alot of time this week for this, so I dashed off another quickie digital pen & Ink:

Caricaturama 3000 has gone from 375 members ( when I joined) to over 850 now!
My vote (and prediction) is for Chris Wahl this week...I'll update here when the winner is announced and we'll see if I'm right!
