A happy 12th birthday party

Last night, I enjoyed drawing a group of 'tweens'!
The birthday girl asked to be drawn with her BFF:

I was expecting at least one of the guests to ask to be drawn with current teen heartthrob Justin Bieber, but they had better ideas! One girl wanted to be with a giant gummi bear! And now I know what "Snooki bumps" are. Well, I knew what they were, just not that they were called that! :-)
Happy birthday, Mary!

Irish Family Reunion

Yesterday afternoon, a shaded backyard was the setting for a spirited (LOL) Irish family reunion. I set up under a canopy in the 'County of Cork':

Here are some of the guests:

This married couple (above) didn't realize I could have drawn them together...

These two did!

'Tween' boys make awesome faces to draw!

Actually, so do the grown-ups! :-)

A surprise 40th birthday party

Last night I had the honor of drawing at a lovely lady's surprise 40th birthday party. Her significant other pulled it off--- she was surprised! Her out-of-town relatives and friends were all there to celebrate with her, and get caricatures!

(Below) Here's the guest of honor and her boyfriend. They'd actually gotten a caricature from me two years ago, at a 50th birthday celebration, which is where he'd gotten the idea that caricatures would be a great entertainment and souvenir for her party too!

These are just a few of the guests; I kept busy for four hours with just a short break to enjoy a nice dinner!

Thanks for having me, Harold, and happy birthday, Tina!

A centenarian caricature!

Yesterday, I drew at Happy Hour for the Senior Living residence again. This time I got to meet and chat with Lottie, who's one hundred years old!

Everyone is so friendly here. And I know they're that way even when it isn't Happy Hour. ;-)

Everyone I drew had glasses, except for one person who proudly said, "I'm the only one who doesn't wear glasses!" :-)

This week's Caricaturama 3000 entry...Gerard Depardieu

This guy's features lend themselves to all sorts of wild interpretations. I was struck by the disparate sizes of his huge nose and small mouth/ teeth. Click here: Caricaturama Showdown 3000 to see more!

Once again, Ebony pencil.

Another FBer is displaying my caricature :-)

for her profile pic!

Thanks Morgan! I shouldn't admit to having favorite drawings, but your expression made your caricature one of my faves from the fair!
And thanks to everyone who's joined my Caricatures by Emily Facebook page. I just topped the 600 mark for "likers" since FB doesn't call them "fans " anymore. My 'likers' are a mix of people who have actually seen me draw at events, and others who have stumbled across my work on FB, since I've never used their paid promotion for fan pages. Thanks again everybody!

This week's Caricaturama 3000 entry...Tracy Morgan

The Facebook group Caricaturama Showdown 3000 is getting LOTS of entries for each week's celebrity, who is chosen by the winner for the following week. Here was my quick sketch ( under an hour) in Ebony pencil.

6th birthday party

Little Sofia likes Stories about Toys :-)

In two and a half hours, I did twenty full-color faces (one was from a photo and not pictured here)--but if you count Woody and Buzz and Slinky and Mr.Potato head, etc, I did twenty-nine! That's about five minutes per. Guess I am still all warmed up from my week-long fair..
Happy birthday Sofia! You have a wonderful family :-)

Saturday at the Fair (finale)

The last day at the fair was a good one in so many ways!

The hair, the hat and the face on this boy made him sooooo much fun to draw! ( And it turned out that I'd drawn his parents at a Halloween party--they're the witch and the vampire).

These two brothers (well, okay, their parents, actually!) get a caricature from me every year...I am so grateful to all my repeat subjects!

And also to my brand-new subjects!

I had another special visitor: this time it was my son (he's between my fiance John and my friend Gary) who is home from Thailand for a visit --he lives and teaches yoga in Bangkok now.

Gary decided to draw him in a typical yoga pose! Hahahaha!
Check out his reaction, below:

My very last drawing at the fair was for these two sweethearts. I told him I'd never actually spoken to a real live Marine before!

See ya next year, Kimberton!

Friday at the Fair

The weather was beautiful, the rides were whizzing, the food was sizzling and the caricatures were cranking!

These three sisters were drawn in succession, their mom told me they had driven an hour and a half to get a caricature from me. Wow!!!!! They were friends with the family of the little kids shown below:

...whom I'd drawn two years ago and whose photo was on my sample board! Click here to see my drawing from then. Scroll down to the photo of "Ethan and Claire".

I had a blast drawing this couple, especially her hair!

This little boy said "Oooooooh!" when I used my Copic Wide marker to do both his sister's and his hair.
Below, my colleague Gary was starting to think he'd never get to do a non-baseball theme at this fair. However, tonight a couple came up and asked him for a theme caricature...he asked what theme, and they said "STRIPPER!"

Her reaction:

Her BF said it was fun watching passersby react to what Gary was drawing!
