Open House on a lovely day!

Last weekend started out for me with a late morning/early afternoon Open House for a friendly neighborhood chiropractor….
We've had a spate of perfect weather lately…not too hot, not too cold. A great day to be outside drawing!

These two parent-child caricatures are the chiropractor's family :-)
When I finished up and went inside, I saw all the employees drawings lined up. :-)
Thank you for having me! :-)

2014 Senior send-off!

Every year, a whole bunch of caricaturists converge on this high school, which throws its seniors a big party on its grounds. This year, there were eight, under four tents:
Instead of standing behind us, where they could see the artwork being created, the students formed lines in front of us so that they remained in the shade of the tent:
But all that body heat under each plastic tarp made for some impressive sweating (both students AND artists!) My calamine lotion slid right off, which made my poison ivy rash a constant presence in my mind as I was drawing! And my friend Patrick, who was to my left, let loose with "#$%^! it's hot!" instead of his usual bursts of Led Zeppelin songs :-O
These were my first two of the day…two teachers (on the right) got drawn before I found out I wasn't supposed to draw teachers--- they look young!!
As I finished up, my colleagues were on on their last drawings. so I snapped a few pics:
Jared Phillips and Adelle Marcero, with John Sprague just visible, facing the other way for some reason. ;-)
Thanks, EBHS!

Aloha After-Prom!

After drawing at an evening wedding, I drove across three counties to get to an after-prom that I LOVE doing every year. I arrived with just enough time to set up and grab something to eat:
ALOHA! I was in the Hawaiian island hallway.
I dressed appropriately, both in fantasy AND real life. And it was definitely another night for Red Bull.
And SUGAR! This fantastic cupcake bakery is one of my clients, too!
I think I was laughing as hard as them, so the photo is blurred. But their reaction footage isn't!
The parent coordinator sent me this feedback:
It is such a pleasure to have you join us again for our post-prom event. You add such fun and amazing artwork---the students enjoy it and we appreciate your time and energy! Aloha! Thank you!
Thanks for having me, as always! :-)

Riverside wedding caricatures!

Last weekend, I arrived early enough at my gig to see the beautiful bride and her father walk down the lawn to the riverbank, where the groom was waiting…
The venue was spectacular and popular (apparently it's often booked years in advance)--- and had enough accolades from TheKnot.com to prove it.
I was seated on a covered deck alongside the ballroom, and it was such a pleasant, clear evening, it could not have been more perfect.
After the ceremony, the guests showed up in my chairs!
Early in the evening----Late in the evening!
I did get a couple of reactions on video ;-)
The bride and groom sat for me and this was the result:
Hope they are having fun in Hawaii right now!
As I packed up to head to a post-prom, I took this photo from the parking lot…told you it was a perfect clear, balmy, early-summer evening!
Thank you, Krystle and Nick, and also Gigmasters! :-)

Update 6-6-14: the wonderful husband-wife photographer team, Matt and Nat, shared this photo and a link to all the wedding photos and they are PHENOMENAL. What an absolutely beautiful wedding---I was so happy to be a part of it. Thank you so much for sharing!

50th birthday caricature…with hot lava, ah-oh-ahh-oh-ahhh*

The last of the baby boomers are turning fifty this year…
This is my friend Cheryl, whose husband used my caricature both for a sign-in at her surprise party...
AND ON HER CAKE!!!!!! :-)
*I had this song going through my head the whole time I was creating it. :-)
Wish I could've been there. Happy birthday, Cheryl!!

Feedback from her hubby:
Thank you so much for the fantastic caricature.  I printed out the 11 x 14 and matted it for signing per your suggestion.  I also printed the party favors on magnet sheets using a regular ink jet printer, and used a self-service cutter at Staples.  Lastly, I printed an 8 x 10 which the supermarket bakery used to transfer the image onto a birthday cake.  Everyone loved your art work.  You really helped me make the event special.

Memorial Day caricatures

Memorial Day weekend is for remembering veterans, and celebrating families. I drew at a pool party/picnic, through the auspices of Entertaining ConXections:
It was for the kids---and I made them all toast marshmallows. :-)
What a gorgeous setting!

Live caricatures AND a caricature sign-in at a stylish wedding!

Last weekend, I drew at a looooong-ago-booked wedding…the bride is definitely more organized than I am! Well, the day finally came and they had me do both a studio caricature for a sign-in, and live caricatures at the reception:
When I asked her what her wedding color was, she said gray…
(this is the room at Allentown Brew Works---cool place!)
with a touch of pink:
If you noticed in the top photo, their beloved canine family member was included, and the bride said he even visited during the wedding (wearing a bow tie!). The party favors were doggie-thoughtful, too!
Here's my view of their triumphant entrance!
My little area became busy immediately, of course, (plus it was next to the bar ;-) and I tried to remember to tell everyone to sign the framed caricature:
Lots of happy faces!
I had to video their reaction because they were so funny while I was drawing them. He told me people call him Bart…it's pretty obvious why!!

Here's one more close-up of the happy bride and groom at the end of the reception. Thank you so much for having me, Nicole and Joey!!!
And here's what I enjoyed while packing up!
